Dearest Reader… Bridgerton Season 4 Has Us Blushing, Gasping, and Replaying Scenes

Dearest Reader… Bridgerton Season 4 Has Us Blushing, Gasping, and Replaying Scenes Listen below now or on your favorite streaming platform ! Bridgerton season 4 is now out on Netflix. It's only the first 4 episodes. The next 4 episodes will air on February 26. This is the story of Benedict and Sophie, and it is a Cinderella affair. Now I already told y'all my favorite is season 2 with Anthony and Kate. I don't believe Anthony and Kate are returning for this season because they opted to go to India with Kate's family, where she will have the baby. So we won’t be seeing them this season, and I don't believe we'll be seeing Daphne this season either. However, I do like that we get to see more Hyacinth. I am excited for her story now because she is showing a little spunk and personality. Again, this story is about Benjamin, and it's a Cinderella-type story where Sophie is being mistreated by her evil stepmother. She finds herself falling in love with Benjamin, b...

The Killer Number 1 on Netflix Movies

Image
The Killer Listen to the Podcast here or scroll below You all know it is kind of weird for me not to recommend a movie. It takes a great deal for me to not like a movie for the most part. The movie has to be really bad on all accounts for me to absolutely give it a bad review. So, I am half recommending this movie and half not recommending it, leaning heavily on the not part.  The Killer popped on my Netflix movie list as number one this week and since I have enjoyed Michael Fassbender as Magneto from the X-men movies (that’s all I remember seeing him in honestly), I was like let me watch this. It’s about an assassin that is on a mission to get revenge so how bad could it be? Not to mention it has pretty good reviews from Rotten Tomatoes, Google users, and IMDB.  The Killer starring Micahel Fassbender, Sophia Charlotte, Charles Parnell, and Tilda Swinton is about a killer, played by Fassbender, who messes up a job. He basically misses his mark and, of course, you can’t get awa...

Squid Game Season 2 Teaser Trailer

Image
Squid Game Season 2 Teaser Trailer Okay, I am not going to lie to you all, I watched season one of the Squid Game series by complete accident because my son and daughter were watching it, and I was curious. I think they were on the third or fourth episode, and I got hooked. It seems so long ago and came at the right time. I have been waiting not-so-patiently like everyone else for season 2. Well, the teaser trailer was dropped, and I am here for it. We have some returning characters and some new players that make it look pretty interesting to watch. The problem is the release date is reported to be November 2024. I would have rather you kept this teaser to yourself. Bombastic side eye! Check out the trailer below

Watching the Watcher on Netflix

Image
The Watcher The Watcher is a new Netflix series with 7 episodes at the moment. Thank goodness for only seven episodes because I am not intimidated enough by the episode count not to watch it. Actually, I had no intention of watching this, and I am still unsure as to whether or not I am going to finish it. However, I am two episodes in so there is a high probability that if I can get my daughter to watch it with me I will actually finish the thing.  Now, I know it seems like I hate the series already. On the contrary, I have actually enjoyed the first two episodes. It is just not something I would watch on my own anymore because I get so anxious. My son put it on for me to watch and I was too lazy to change it.  The Watcher takes place in a suburb outside of the hustle and bustle of New York City. The couple, Dean and Nora Brannock, think they have found their dream home until disturbing things happen and they get very, equally, disturbing letters from “the watcher.” It ...

I Care a Lot Review

Image
I Care a Lot  I Care a Lot is currently streaming on Netflix and stars Rosamund Pike, Eiza Gonzelez, Peter Dinklage, and Dianne Wiest as Marla Grayson, Fran, Roman Lunyov, and Jennifer Peterson respectively. It is about a ruthless woman, Marla Grayson, who takes advantage of the elderly by getting assigned as their court-appointed guardian and then basically steals all their money. It is quite the elaborate scheme in which she has a doctor sign off on a patient’s incompetence and dumps then into nursing facilities that are in on it. Was this a good movie? Yes. Did I like it? Absolutely not. It is not my type of movie. If I have to give it an unbiased rating it would be a solid B+. The acting was on point. The casting was amazing. The set gave a perfect contrast again the dark content of the film. It was colorful, beautiful,  and light and airy as if attempting to make the viewer forget that we are watching something very sinister play out. The pacing was well done also....

Malcom and Marie Movie Review

Image
Malcolm and Marie, released to Netflix on February 5th, stars Zendaya and John David Washington as Malcolm and Marie respectively. I watched the film a few days ago but had to let it marinate before I could write a review about it. It was a simple set up, two people, one set, black and white, and emotions. It was a good movie as far as acting, cinematography, simplicity, and writing. With that, I would not watch it again.  Malcolm and Marie, although a very good movie, was not my cup of tea. It is not the type of movie I would normally watch. It was way too heavy. I try not to watch those types of movies anymore. I still have not watched Kerry Washington’s American Son for that very reason.  The film is a glimpse into the life of this couple on a very big night for Malcolm in which his movie screened and the audience seemed to love it. He is high on the night’s excitement while Marie is in her head. Marie is upset and they argue about how Malcolm forgot to thank her in his spe...

Queen's Gambit Review

Image
Queen’s Gambit is now playing on Netflix and stars Anya Taylor-Joy who delivered a solid performance. The most remarkable thing about this seven-episode series is that it kept me riveted to their chess games as if I actually knew what was going on. I did not- at all. Nevertheless, I watched like I was watching game seven of an NBA championship playoff, and my team needed to score in the final 10 seconds for the win.  I try to avoid taking on new series because I don’t have the time for it and I do not want to get so invested in a show with a ridiculous amount of episodes. Thankfully, Queen’s Gambit only had seven. With that being said, I think I would have gladly watched a few more.  The story is about an awkward young girl left tragically left an orphan who, against all odds becomes a formidable chess player in a male-dominated sphere during the 1960s. It actually sounds pretty boring, but Anya Taylor-Joy carries off Beth Harmon so well that the audience ends up rooting for h...

Sweet Magnolias

Image
Sweet Magnolia is a new Netflix series starring JoAnna Swisher, Brooke Elliott and Heather Headley.  There is just the right amount of real-life issues set against the sunshine southern country backdrop that seems to make everything better. It focuses on three long time friends as they navigate through the good and trying aspects of life in a small town called Serenity.  Heather Headley plays Helen Decatur and I just adore her. She is the smart, lawyer friend who keeps everyone's business in check. I thought her singing voice was beautiful but I enjoy her regular voice even more. She has a drawl that just puts you at ease. The voice of reason for others even though she cannot seem to get things right for herself. Dana Sue Sullivan played by Brooke Elliot is that annoying friend that you love anyway. She has a little bit of all of us which is probably why I love-hate her.  JoAnna Swisher plays Maddie Townsend who is freshly separated and has to watch as her not yet ex-husb...

93 Days Movie Review

Image
93 Days stars Danny Glover as Dr. Benjamin Ohiaeri who has to spearhead a team's response to an Ebola outbreak in the city of Lagos. Apparently, this movie made the rounds in 2016 and I completely missed it. In addition to romance, action, and science fiction movies, there is nothing I love more than a good medical drama. So the fact that this was about an outbreak in a city with over 21 million people, piqued my interest right away. I thought this film was going to be about some scary viral thing that changed humans into raging zombies like 28 Days Later or something like the movie Outbreak. What I did not realize was that it was based on true events. I was actually in awe and saddened at the same time. Ultimately, this film was inspiring and eye-opening if anything else. I do not want to hear anything about a white savior chatter because there was a white epidemiologist that was assisting with treating the people that became infected. Okay, there was a bit of that and I ...

Raising Dion Netflix Review

Image
Are you watching Raising Dion? Have you watched Raising Dion? If not then you need to. A few years ago, there was a short trailer circulating the internet featuring a young mother and her son who had superpowers. It seemed to get some traction and I myself was pretty excited about the concept of this potential film. Then it faded away. Fast Forward to October 2019 and Raising Dion produced by Michael B. Jordan, who also makes a few appearances in the film, is released on Netflix. Raising Dion, starring Alisha Wainwright,  Ja'Siah Young, Jason Ritter, and Michael B Jordan is about a young mother who finds out her eight-year-old son has superpowers and the lengths she will go through to protect him. This Netflix science fiction series was really entertaining. The production quality was impressive and the cast came together nicely. I always enjoy John Ritter in most of his projects and he did not disappoint in this series. There are some twists and turns that come togeth...

In the Shadow of the Moon Movie Review

Image
In the Shadow of the Moon stars Boyd Holbrook, Michael C. Hall, Cleopatra Coleman and Bokeem Woodbine in a time-traveling thriller that tries really hard to keep the audience on its toes. Can we talk about Bokeem Woodbine? This dude is a solid B (that might be pushing it, okay C) actor. He really should get more acting jobs because I really think he can handle whatever comes his way. He handles that 80s hair number like a pro in this movie. His hairline was all kinds of jacked up 😆. I tell you this, he may not be an A-list actor but he stays working, and that is the most important thing. Truthfully, the only reason he is not an A-lister is because he has not been given the right part in the right movie to explode. He is a strong actor even if it may be slightly over-the-top on occasion. I do enjoy seeing what he will pop up in next.  Cleopatra Coleman as Rya was a delight. I look forward to seeing her in more works. The movie follows detective Locke, played by Holbrook, ...

Otherhood with Angela Bassett

Image
Otherhood with Angela Bassett led me to Further by Correatown and I am fairly certain that I am not the only one. I'm so mad at myself that I did not know about this song eight years ago when it first came out. I probably was not in the appropriate place to receive it but I receive it now. Otherhood is a Netflix movie starring Angela Bassett, Felicity Huffman (currently is a bit of drama for some really poor privileged choices, but I digress)  and Patricia Arquette as mothers who are being ignored by their adult sons. They decide to do a surprise visit on their kids and the fun ensues. It is a cute movie. Maybe I related to it a bit because I anticipate that will be my case with my son. He does a really good job of ignoring me now except when he needs something of course. I am hoping the teenager boy bug will fade away as he grows into adulthood. Unfortunately, for Carol (Angela Bassett), Helen (Felicity Huffman), and Gillian (Patricia Arquette) their son's were waist-dee...

Bird Box

Image
Have you watched A Quiet Place meets The Happening ? I mean Bird Box. I love Sandra Bullock. I have not watched her in a film in a long time. I actually watched her in Oceans 8  and Gravity which was years ago and a long time for me. I was excited to see her in another project. I was also happy to see Rel. Now he is someone who took advantage of the exposure he received from Get Out . Bird Box had a strong cast of actors. Most of them have been in the game for a while giving strong performances while going under the radar, so the acting was stellar on all accounts. There has been a lot of hype going on about this movie via social media so some people have high expectations. The memes are hilarious and I can relate, especially to the one about Girl and Boy not following directions. However, if you are looking for something scary on Get Out level, you will be disappointed. The storyline is very similar to the Happening except the Happening provided us with a rea...

Cloverfield Paradox

Image
Netflix pulled a Beyonce last night and without any promotions, prior marketing or fanfare dropped a movie. The latest installment of JJ Abram's Cloverfield franchise, Cloverfield Paradox. This latest science fiction foray into JJ Abrams' twisted world stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ava Hamilton, David Oyelowo as Kiel, Daniel Brühl as Schmidt, John Ortiz as Monk Acosta, Chris O'Dowd as Mundy, Zhang Ziyi as Tam, and Elizabeth Debicki as Mina Jensen. Do you have to watch the previous two installments to understand Cloverfield Paradox? No, not really. However, I definitely recommend you watch the first one. The second one was really a look into human behavior and resilience but it is not at all necessary to watch. Instead focus on watching Cloverfield ; it will be more impactful to know what was going happening on the planet while the space crew was dealing with their issues. It definitely adds more to the intrigue, mystery, and suspense of it all. Things I loved: Just ...

Stranger Things

Image
Stranger Things on Netflix. Why has it taken me so long to get on this? I am currently on episode six. Two more to go and the kids and I are loving it. So happy to see my love of science fiction has been taken on my them. Stranger Things has a good dose of creepy, scary monsters, secret organizations, clueless parents and people, and fearless kids. My favorite is Dustin, the voice of reason in a cute chubby little body. If you are like myself and have not watched it yet, take the time to get your Stranger Things binge on.
