I’d Rather Go Blind

I’d Rather Go Blind Wanda M Toby She loved him for more years than she cared to admit. The way he moved on the court and the way he talked and the way he walked, as if he was born with swagger laced in his bones. Over the years their friendship had grown to one that she could not really explain. She watched women come in and out of his life like cars in a shopping mall on Black Friday. None of it fazed her. She was the one he called in his precious quiet times, when the cameras and crowds were gone. She was the one he talked with and spent time with and planned his future with. She was the one he took care of and protected. She was the one he never wanted to touch for fear that he would ruin what they had and hurt her, like he did with all the rest. The sexual tension between them was so thick that she felt it suffocating her at times. She looked down at him, sleeping quietly with his head in her lap. The urge to bend her head and kiss his lips had her heart racing so fast that her c...

Poison and Wine

Songs inspire me. Unfortunately, I have not been inspired in a while but Poison and Wine, featured on So You Think You Can Dance, caught my attention. It inspired me to write this Flash fiction. Poison and Wine She stared at him. On the outside, he looked liked her husband. He truly did. The lines of his features were the same ones she had grown to love over the years. His mouth curved ever so slightly into an awkward smile- the same smile that stole her breath away. He looked like the person who loved her more than he loved himself, the man that would dote on her and force her to relax when she pushed herself to hard. He looked like the man that vowed to always take care of her. Staring at him in the light streaming into her kitchen from the sun, she was not sure if he was that man anymore. She did not recognize him in the midst of the lies. He turned his head towards her but she quickly looked away. She did not want to get caught wondering about who was. He looked back down at ...

A Good Start

A Good Start He waited for her by the bench where they first met. He waited for her, not really sure she would take the same path that once led her straight to his heart so many years ago. He waited, not knowing what he would say to compel her. Somehow, “I love you,” does not seem enough, not after what they shared, what they lost. He waited for her, thinking he should go, slink away and hide like the coward he had been. Was there anything that he could really do to make amends? He turned to leave but caught a glimpse, and that glimpse about tore him apart. She was smiling, laughing. It left him wondering how she could be so happy. For a minute he thought she was smiling because she saw him standing there, waiting for her. No. She was smiling at the other him in her life now. He seemed to bring her a joy that could not compare to what they had once shared- what he shattered, what he was not sure he could get back. She looked so happy that he almost did not want to bother. “I love ...

All I Want

All I Want     She sat quietly at the corner table, waiting. As she waited those few moments, she thought that she should escape now, run away as fast as her graceful legs could taker her. She should be anyplace in the world but this luxurious hotel room. Instead of running though, she stayed, still, silent and sanguine.     This was dangerous. He was dangerous. He was all wrong. They had been over this one too many times, but she could not help wanting to feel his rough hands on her delicate skin again, and again. She wanted to taste him for this one last time. So she waited. She waited and watched as he came into the room, damp from the light drizzle outside. He smiled shyly at her. It was the same cunning smile that had ensnared her soul so many years ago. She did not care though.     For just this one moment she did not care about the lies that had separated them. For just this one minute she wanted to discard the pain and hurt for som...

Official Girl

Lacey stood just outside of the restaurant, watching the young couple order their meals. He looked dashing with a tailored suit to fit his athletic height, and she wore an elegant little black dress accentuated with a red silk scarf. She smiled at how comfortable they looked together. The tip she got on her cell phone was definitely worth it. Lacey turned from the couple to look back at the messages. She had no idea where they came from, appreciating them nevertheless. The telephone buzzed in her hand. “Hello,” Lacey answered, slightly exasperated. “Are you there? Did you find them? How do they look?” The questions came without pause. Lacey turned back to the window, peering at the couple as they laughed. “Yes, I found them. I will call you later. Stop bugging me.” She ended the call without waiting for a response. She pushed number 2 and waited for an answer. “Hey, babe. I just got here … No, the flight was great. I even slept for a couple of hours.” Lacey let the lies fall out of her...

I’m In Love with a Stripper

Image
Someone had to remind me that I wrote this a while back. Enjoy. ------------------------------------ I'm In Love with a Stripper He stood in the background watching her dance, pealing off garments as slowly as she could with every swirl of her hips. She hypnotized everyone in the dingy night club, even the women. There was just something about her that screamed, love me. And, oh, how he did love her, so much so that he felt his chest constrict as she knelt down to have a twenty-dollar bill tucked into her g-string, the last piece of garment left on her. He clenched his fist at his sides. “She’s something, isn’t she?” a lean, built man asked him as he sat down at the same table. He only nodded. Taking in a deep breath, he released his hands, shook them out and placed them on the table. He waited for the last piece of clothing to fall. The audience went wild, whooping and hollering as if they were a wild pack of apes. As she picked up the bills strewn all over the stage floor, he sto...

Bed II

Although this could be a stand alone flash fiction, I highly recommend reading Bed I ( Bed Part I- Flash Fiction ) first. ------------------ Bed II Leon paced the small length of the sparsely decorated hotel room several times while nervously rubbing his hands together. He had never done this sort of thing. The idea of it all was too clandestine for his strictly structured lifestyle. Nevertheless, he was in an out of the way hotel, waiting. The knock at the door startled him out of his pacing. He stopped, looked at the door, and took a deep breath before moving to open it. Anxiousness fluttered its way through his stomach. Before opening up, he took in a deep breath and let it out. Leon pulled the door open but didn’t move. He couldn’t. He wasn’t really sure that he even wanted to go any further. Carl stood on the other side, discretely dressed in black slacks and a fitted black t-shirt with a black sued jacket over it. He raised an eyebrow as Leon stood, unmoving at the doorway. “Did...

Bed Part I- Flash Fiction

In honor of the release of J. Holiday's new albulm today, I thought I would post this flash fiction inspired by his song Bed. Expect Bed Part II soon after. ---------------------------------------------------------- Bed Part I Tasha stepped out of the steaming shower onto a plush green rug. She patted herself dry before moving to her vanity. As she applied the watermelon scented Bath & Body Works lotion to her arms and legs she thought about her husband. He had been gone for three days now and she missed him. Loneliness filled her as she pulled on her satin negligee. She slowly sauntered to her modestly decorated bedroom and crawled into bed with a book in her hands. As Tasha made herself comfortable, scooting closer to the lamp on her nightstand, the telephone rang, startling her. She hated being alone. “Hey baby.” She smiled and replied, “Hey you. I was just thinking of you.” “What are you doing?” Tasha set the book aside. “Getting ready for bed.” A sudden movement just out ...

Big Girls Don't Cry

Big Girls Don't Cry Mary’s hands gripped tightly on the steering wheel. Every so often she would wiggle her fingers allowing air to flow through. Her palms were sweaty against the wheel. She drove silently, not even turning the radio on. Her heart pounded so loudly against her chest that she was afraid the small infant, sleeping soundly in the back, would hear it and start to wail. She looked at the back seat quickly, glancing at the infant car seat she had “borrowed” from her sister. In the middle of the night, her sister was not going to leave the house to notice that it was missing. She had “borrowed” a few other necessary items that she hoped her sister would not notice had gone missing as well: diapers, a baby bottle, formula, clothes, and a pink blanket. Mary thought those might be things a baby would need. She had saved up her allowance for three weeks in order to buy a pretty, pink diaper bag she saw in a store. Everything fit perfectly. Thank God it was a girl. She could h...

Apologize

This piece of flash fiction was inspired by One Republic's Apologize. It may be a little controversial. I will upload the video soon. Apologize by Wanda M Toby Inspired by OneRepublic’s Apologize Jonathan rushed into the small apartment excited to see his fiancé. His stomach fluttered with anticipation as he waited for her to come home from the gym. Nerves had him pacing the living room, so he decided to make them a couple of sandwiches. A million thoughts rushed through his mind about what he would say to her. He was relieved that his high school football team was able to pull out a win tonight because he was hardly able to focus on coaching them after learning that he, one day, could be coaching his own child. She hadn’t told him yet, but he was too excited at the thought to wait for her to set up some special reveal. The front door opened up just as he finished putting the second sandwich together. He looked up and smiled at her; she smiled back. “Hey babe, how was the gym?...

Who Knew?

This is my short story inspired by Pink's new single Who Knew . I love this song! Pinks Yahoo Music Page Who Knew by Wanda Toby She waited nervously at the table for him. He didn't go in right away, opting to watch her from the gateway. She fidgeted with the collar of a pink summer dress she wore over white fishnet pantyhose. He smiled as he took her in. After all these years, after everything that happened, she still had her spunk. She looked down at her watch as the waiter approached her. It was comforting to know that she was a little nervous because his mind hadn't stopped racing since her phone call. He watched as she turned to look at a couple to her far right, a little boy that was giving his mother a hard time about sitting still. She smiled brightly at them and waved. The boy waved back vigorously as the mother looked on apologetically. She looked down at her watch again. He felt someone bump him before mumble her apologies. That was his cue to go and meet her.
