When Doing It All Goes Wrong: 5 Life Balance Tips to Get Back on Track

Image
When Trying to Do It All Goes All Wrong Listen below now or on your favorite streaming platform ! I have often wondered if there was such a thing as feeling too good and I may have found the answer recently. February was a good month. I was on a roll. I was coming off a tough time and started feeling like I was getting my groove back. Things were beginning to fall back in place and feel manageable again. So I decided to refocus on my health because I had slacked off a bit. In comes this 14-day health challenge that I felt good about. It seemed that I should be able to participate in it fairly easily. I think my feeling good about everything else fooled me into thinking I could handle this 14-day health challenge along with everything else. I really thought I could do it all with no regard to how I was going to balance it all. As I got to the second day of the challenge, I realized that I took for granted the time it would take to devote to doing it.  The challenge required that I c...

Stress Less Tip 8: Do Not Get Comfortable

Image
Comfort you deceive me relishing in my lull Captivated, I do not move forward Listen to the Podcast Comfort is something we all seek in our lives. Honestly, who wants to be uncomfortable? I sure do not. Unfortunately, comfort can be the worst thing for us sometimes. Our body requires a delicate balance to maintain our daily living. Healthwise if anything is out of whack too much for too long, we will find ourselves falling ill. Consequently, we may physically interpret comfort as maintaining equilibrium. However, even in our comfort, we can physically throw parts of ourselves out of whack.                Maintaining balance or equilibrium is not a static thing. I like to think of it as a quest in which we are always moving towards a goal, making adjustments, jumping through hoops. Think of our goal towards equilibrium like the game Temple Run (I know, I am taking it back). This is what is constantly...

Stress Relief Tip: Create Your Future

Image
Create your future There are few things more stressful than uncertainty. At least one other thing is a lack of control over one's own life. These things disrupt our mental homeostasis, increasing that off-balance feeling. Our body's main physiological goal is to stay balanced in that place where everything feels right. When we are out of balance we will find ways to cope with those feelings and regain that level of equilibrium that our nature desires. The idea is to cope with the imbalance via healthy activities that help instead of resort to things like drug, alcohol, or destructive behaviors. Taking control of your destiny before things get out of control is one way to help. This is not to say that every aspect in one's life is in order or the way you would like it to be. Instead, it is about taking control of your life back. You can do this by taking a step back and looking at things in your life objectively. Take the time to assess and decide which aspects of your...

Five Simple Steps to Sacrificing for the Future

Image
Do what today others won't, so tomorrow you can do what other's can't. -Brian Rogers Loop Accomplishment  and reaching our goals is about sacrifice. Everything takes some level of effort from us. How much effort we are wiling to exert is the difference between sitting on the couch in front of the television for an couple of hours and doing something productive towards your goal, something we may no really want to do but is necessary to get to the next level. As much as it is about what we are doing, it is also about what the next person is not doing. Did you know accomplishment is rewarding to our sense of self and well being? The effort we make to get where we are going helps reaffirm our self-esteem when that goal is reached. A strong sense of self is a building block in stress management and stress relief. While getting there may require we step outside of our comfort zone, the reward in arriving there adds to the overall enrichment of our lives. Remember these f...

Work does not have to be a Chore

Image
I joke around about having to work all the time. The reality is that work is important to having a fulfilling life. Work leads to a sense of daily accomplishment and productivity in addition to giving us a means to pay the bills and maintain our current lifestyle. If you are not getting those positive take-aways from work then some time of self reflection is in order and maybe a change is needed. Working just to pay the bills can be stressful because of that lack of accomplishment, enjoyment and fulfillment. What do you need to do in order to put some meaning back into your work life? Sometimes it is as simple as a change in perspective and attitude on your part. Most people, myself included, would like to work on their own terms and/or focus their energy on their passion, and may sometimes get frustrated with what they have to do to pay the bills. Again, sometimes it is all about attitude and perspective. Maybe you are working on your passion outside of work, that in itself can br...
