Be Still

Image
Learning how to be still, to really be still and let life happen - that stillness becomes a radiance. - Morgan Freeman There is a time when a person needs to move and shake it out, dance it out, work it out or whatever physical activity is required to calm our body down. Sometimes there is this nervous energy inside of us that the only thing we can do is shake our body. Then there are other times that we really need to be still. More often than not, we need to pause and be still. It is not simply being still as in not moving. This type of stillness will take practice and patience. This is the stillness that we can draw energy from and peace from and allow the divine/universe to speak to us. This is the stillness that allows us to receive good vibes and discern what we need in our lives. Stillness Exercise 1. Close your eyes 2. Breathe in and out through your nose for three sets 3. Tighten and relax your muscles 4. Breathe in and out for five minutes If it helps to have a...

Embrace this Moment

Image
photo by Dawid Zawila Embrace  the gentle kiss  of the wind, reminding  us that in stark stillness remains  life’s breath We can easily invite unnecessary stress into our lives by worrying and overthinking certain details. There are times that a person can be dealing with a stressful situation and she allows it to consume her entire being. It is so easy to unwittingly find ourselves caught in the cycle of stress. It is in those moments that we need to step back and appreciate the smaller things. It is in those moments that I encourage you to stop and breathe.  It’s not just about the breath. I want you to take that moment and think of the smallest things that we take for granted like your feet for example. Most importantly, I want you to remember in that moment that you are alive and can feel and can take action. Think of nothing else but your potential. Just breathe and be thankful or just be.  At some point, you should write down...

Multitasking is Not Real

Image
When walking walk. When eating eat. – Zen Proverb Multi-tasking is a great skill to have. We see articles and suggestions about the best way to multi-task all over. However, new research is suggesting that maybe multitasking is not such a great thing after all. In recent years articles published on NPR and various business magazines as well as health website tell a different story about multitasking on the health, brain and productivity. Multitasking is not all it is cracked up to be and it can show in your work and overall wellbeing. I find when I am multitasking that I feel rushed. I do not feel that I am giving it my best. Imagine when you are having a conversation with someone and something on the television catches your attention. What happens to the person that was speaking? Whatever they are saying tends to fade away, doesn’t it? All of a sudden, few seconds later, you have to ask them to repeat themselves or pretend like you were paying attention to every word they s...

Five Simple Steps to Sacrificing for the Future

Image
Do what today others won't, so tomorrow you can do what other's can't. -Brian Rogers Loop Accomplishment  and reaching our goals is about sacrifice. Everything takes some level of effort from us. How much effort we are wiling to exert is the difference between sitting on the couch in front of the television for an couple of hours and doing something productive towards your goal, something we may no really want to do but is necessary to get to the next level. As much as it is about what we are doing, it is also about what the next person is not doing. Did you know accomplishment is rewarding to our sense of self and well being? The effort we make to get where we are going helps reaffirm our self-esteem when that goal is reached. A strong sense of self is a building block in stress management and stress relief. While getting there may require we step outside of our comfort zone, the reward in arriving there adds to the overall enrichment of our lives. Remember these f...

Sincere and Pure Devotion: Do No Lose Heart

But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ ~2 Corinthians 11:3 How is it that a person decides to commit to something and starts out with enthusiasm unbound only to eventually fall behind and waver in what seemed to be a strong commitment? I am fairly sure that I am not the only person who has decided to commitment to something that will bring me closer to God only to disappoint myself in how much time I actually end up devoting to it. Unlike Eve, we don't have actually serpents slithering around, trying to convince us to stray away from God. Things are more subtle now that we can easily miss the influences that take us away from God. In my case, it was life. It was commitments to other things, procrastination, mismanagement of time and just plain old laziness. For the life of me, I cannot fathom how I could not find 15 minutes a day to stay commited to my devotions. ...

Getting Ahead in Life: Take God With You

11He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. 13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in his toil--this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him. ~Ecclesiastes 3:11-14 God is God--awesome and powerful and mighty and all the things that we cannot even begin to wrap our minds around. Scientist and scholars have devoted their lives to trying to figure out how God has gone about doing his thing. Scholars and philosophers have spent generations trying to unearth and expose the Bible. Whether a person is a believer or not, the Bible is an awesome book and phenomenon. God has given us the world and we don't even know how to act. God has not o...

Out of Focus

First off, if you are a person who takes notice of details, then it is apparent that I am considerably behind in my 21 Days of Consecration. It is life, man. It just keeps getting me caught up in stuff. This, of course, challenged my level of commitment to this program. I am committed but suck and prioritizing. Sleep, although it is for my health and well-being, sometimes feels like the enemy. Regardless of all the reasons why, I am two days behind. None of the clever excuses that I can come up with matter because the bottom line is that, at some point in the last two days, I decided to put God and my commitment to Him on the back burner. Ouch! That is pretty harsh. Fine! I will not dwell on it. I will move on and take action. I vow to get caught up today. It is a must because if I don't then, I will find myself on the 21st day needing to catch up on 17 days and missing the whole point. God commits everything to me, I can commit 21 minutes of 1,4400. Therefore, since we are surroun...
