Terrifying Laundry Room

Image
The Terrifying Laundry Room My laundry room is an absolute terror. I have seven laundry baskets ... seven! There's only three of us. These seven baskets each have some level of clothes in them. I have lost track of which ones have clothes that are clean, need to be washed,  need to be folded or refolded or whetever else. Then I have a table with clothes on it that vary from towels to sheets, mis-paired pillow cases to new clothes, old clothes, give-away clothes and I probably should just trash these clothes. Oh and I have pillows. I do not know why there are pillows in here. Where is their home? Whose missing pillows and why have you not collected them? At one point, my laundry room was a wonderful place to walk into, spacious and everything in its place. Towels and sheets were folded on the shelf. The table actually had room for the small ironing board and we ironed clothes there regularly without having to exert energy to displace whatever clothing was in our way. How did I...

Be the light that you are!

Image
Be the light that you are!  I do not care for watching the news, mostly because everything is always so negative. Bad news sells advertising. Bad news stirs up emotions and causes people to react which increases viewership and that translates to dollars. That is why we find so much negative stuff in the news and that is why I avoid it. Nevertheless, I have to remind myself that the world is full of good people that live good lives and that do great things on a regular basis. These things are ordinary and probably not news worthy. These things could be what we take from granted. These things are life.  Be kind, loving, and generous. Help each other. Laugh together. Spend time enjoying one another's company. Share the love, the light that is inside of you. Be the beacon. Be an example. Live, love, laugh and smile! That to me is spreading light, being light. Being love! Light in motion!  Helpful articles The Art of Kindness Benefits of Showing Kindness to Oth...

Create Your Dreams

Image
I have dreams. You have dreams. They are out there swirling around. Lately,  I have felt haunted by them. They lurk around in the daily task of life, the humdrum of the hamster wheel. They remind me that I am not living to my full potential. We have to go for our dreams and make plans with measurable steps to reach them. Let's move forward and make our dreams reality together. Most importantly,  let's support one another in doing so!

Seeking Success Does Not Stop

Image
It seems as though I am always making a decision to try, feeling like I am constantly revamping things to get me back on track towards what seems to be an elusive goal. This is not to take for granted the measures of success that I have already had. I am well aware and grateful for my many accomplishments thus far. However,  for those of us that have bigger goals than the status quo, we seem to always look towards the future.  In that vision, I personally see a lack of motivation. How am I supposes to meet my personal standards of success if I cannot get off my ass? It is at this point when I find that a little motivational talk is required in order to reboot my drive. That moment of reboot and refocus is what separates us, success seekers, from others in that even though we may get into a rut, a momentary set back does not define or deter us. That is what separates the doers from the ones that give up. Seeking success does not stop.

Get Rich or Die Trying

Image
But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. 10For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. ~ 1st Timothy 6:6-12 I have to constantly check myself because of all the material things that I don't have but I really want. The only way that I know to get those things is to somehow make more money. Like most people, I have dreams of making enough money that will allow me to satisfy my material desires without a moments thought. Some of them have to do with the basics such as shelter, food, and clothing; the problem is that my wants go way beyond what I actually need. I cannot deny that I want the t...

Don't Allow Laziness to Creep Up On You

Image
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. 11We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. 12We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. ~ Hebrews 6:10-12 I have not posted in a long while. I guess my "excuse" would be that I have been on the road, traveling. It doesn't matter that I have had computer access at each of my destination and that I have had plenty of time to pause, read the Bible and write something up; I will be sticking to my pseudo-reason for why I have not posted anything in over a two weeks. Now, here is the bad part about this whole situation. When I don't post it also means that I am not reading the Bible. This site and my posting is my way of keeping myself honest about staying in communion with God. Before I post something I usua...

Feeling A Bit Lazy?

Do you ever have a long list of things that need to get done, but you have absolutely no motivation to even attempt to start striking things off that list? In other words, do you ever get lazy? Personally, I like to call it my special ability to procrastinate until the list disappears all on its own (we know that will never happen, it will just get longer). So, I have been feeling a little out of sorts and just plain old lazy. I find a host of other mindless things to do before I even think about doing what's necessary. Actually, I was not even going to post anything tonight, but then I thought I would post about feeling lazy. That meant looking up something in the Bible which, naturally, my lazy behind did not want to do. I did it anyway. A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother, 2Ill-gotten treasures are of no value, but righteousness delivers from death. 3The lord does not let the righteous go hungry but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. 4L...

Getting Ahead in Life: Take God With You

11He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. 13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in his toil--this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him. ~Ecclesiastes 3:11-14 God is God--awesome and powerful and mighty and all the things that we cannot even begin to wrap our minds around. Scientist and scholars have devoted their lives to trying to figure out how God has gone about doing his thing. Scholars and philosophers have spent generations trying to unearth and expose the Bible. Whether a person is a believer or not, the Bible is an awesome book and phenomenon. God has given us the world and we don't even know how to act. God has not o...

Want To Be Rich?

Do not wear yourself out to get rich; have the wisdom to show restraint. ~Proverbs 23:4 Proverbs 23 has some wonderful nuggets and some verses that make me want to chuckle. I have a weird sense of humor so that is not odd. Anyway, I recommend you take a read of that one. I have this overwhelming desire inside of me to be something more than average. Actually, average was not even on my radar. As a kid, I wanted to go to school, find a good job, and work until I retire. At some point, and I am not sure when, I wanted more. As I am trying to get a handle on how to better serve God, I am learning that this need I have to do more is most likely stemming from the fact that I am not on the path God chose for me. I am not doing what he intended with my gift; therefore, I have all this energy that is all over the place. Anyone who knows me well, can tell you that I have 101 things going on. I understand now that I was wearing myself out to get rich. I equated wealth (like MTV Cribs wealth or m...

Purpose Driven Life Day 3: What Drives Your Life?

Since I am still away and out of touch with everything, I was able to sneek some time in between classes to post something. This was supposed to be done on February 9th but was actually completed on February 12, 2008. I will be caught up and on time soon enough. What Drives Your Life? Day three of Purpose Driven Life asks the question, “What drives us?” Warren discusses five factors that drive peoples' lives (usually): guilt, resentment and anger, fear, materialism, and need for approval. Which one of those drives you? Personally, before God showed me His direction for my life, I was driven by materialism. For those who know me well, it may not seem that way at first because I never really cared about brand named clothes or having the most popular of this or that. Upon appearance, I am not materialistic as the world defines it. I am not Paris Hilton or a person who has to have everything that’s hot and trendy. I am not much of a big shopper either. In fact, I actually hate shoppin...
