Be an Inspiration to the Children

Image
I want to do something inspirational for my children. -Harvey Weinstein The other day I was thinking about my children and how much I wanted them to be well balanced, adjusted human beings who not only take from this world (which is an inevitability of living in it) but also give back to it. After watching the Ted Talk,  How to raise successful kids -- without over-parenting by Julie Lythcott-Haims , I thought about how I can do that without being this stressed out crazy person.  My children are everything to me. Like most parents, I would literally give my life for them without batting an eye or any hesitation what so ever. But let me be perfectly clear, the little suckers drive me nuts. They are easily my biggest stressors because I allow certain situations to get to me. I am working on that. I want so much for them. In reality though, I have to change my thinking, for my sake and theirs actually. I am working on living a life that inspires them instead of always ins...

Be Open to the Energy Around You

Image
Energy Today the universe spoke and so I listened directed to where I was meant to be A few weeks back, I went to my first Reiki circle and it was enlightening, inspiring, moving and energizing but most importantly relaxing. My mind was refocused and I felt a renewed spirit of appreciation. I knew I was meant to be there at that particular time. I then looked at my life and the people that were in my life and the people that have come into my life; I looked at where I was at presently and the transitions I have made to get here. I looked at all of that and realized regardless of my misgivings and doubts, I was not only where I was meant to be but also that I'm going in the right direction, and that is truly a beautiful thing. We are not ignored. We are not left to our own devices. We are guided and subtly directed. We can choose to follow this path. We can choose to engage with these flashes of intuition. Or we can choose to ignore them to our own detriment. God does not...

Keep your Family and Friends Close

Image
Family and Friends Bloodline is worth living for and friendship reminds us to keep pushing despite the set backs This cinquain was inspired by the last two episodes of Lethal Weapon. The picture I used is of my grandprents, may they rest in peace. I miss them dearly. They were certainly the everything in our family who both lived well into thier nineties. I remember my granpa would look at all of his kids, his grandkids and his great grand kids and say, in his native tongue, Haitian Creole, "You see them, they are all me. They are all from me." A fact that he was extremely proud of. A fact that I am certain kept him going for a few more years after my grandmother past. Family is the means by which we live on. For some it is the reason to keep going. I can speak from experience and share that my children saved my life when all seemed bleak. With that being said, friendships cannot be discounted. Good friends can help keep us straight and keeps us laughing and help r...

Sunday's with the kids

Image
I am learning to like Sundays again. It is a slow process but it is coming along. For most people it is family time. I try to keep it that way. We get spiritually rejuvenated and then spend time chilling. It usually works out well, especially if the house is clean by then. Last Sunday, I did my daughter's hair. I usually style it for at least two weeks. Now she wants me to do something else to it. So, it looks like I will spend some of this Sunday doing her hair again  ... maybe towards the end of the night. It is actually relaxing because once the design is decided upon, I let my fingers work. We talk and watch television and my son sits with us, being the annoying older brother. It is a relaxing way to wind down, get connected and enjoy each other. Although it may seem like a chore, it is about prespective and how we approach things. Turn a chore into an experience. Do hair and live lite! Happy Sunday!

ADHD Parenting

Image
I have nothing to say that will add to this except to take it as a reminder. The struggle is real. The feelings are real. Parenting woes are real. My frustrations do not outweigh the needs and feelings of my growing  kids.

Meltdown Mommy Moment

Image
I had a meltdown tonight. Ultimately,  I feel terrible after one of my frustration attacks. Parenting is hard and sometimes it's harder than hard. When the house is a mess, homework needs to be done, there's no dinner, tweens are fighting and not listening and there's just a lot of noise, I feel like crying or yelling. Tonight, I yelled. Now I feel guilty and defeated. It happens. So, yes. I am holding on because my kids are awesome and forgiving and able to get on with life. They will continue to need my guidance whether I am tired and frustrated or not. My love for them makes me crazy. So, I'm writing to maintain my lite living. Live lite, live on.

My Mom Brings Home Condoms

Image
Between my mother and children, I am never low on things that me make laugh my butt off. I'm sitting at home in the lanai, enjoying a beautiful day off when my mother comes through the door and drops a handful of condoms on my laptop. Yeah, I was confused and immediately curious. She goes on to say she wondered why the nurses looked at her funny when she grabbed a hand full of them and dropped them in her purse. LOL well senior citizens need love too right?  Except, she thought they were prepackaged wipes! Lol. She kills me.

Uno with the Kids

Image
My kids, ages seven and nine, have a way of driving me nuts. I am sure many parents are familiar with the endless supply of energy that your kids can have especially when all you want to do is chill and relax. When they want more from me than the energy I have to give, I bust out with the Uno cards. They are still on an energy high but the y simmer it down just enough to play the game. We can enjoy eachother's company, and I can lay back and relax a bit. It's a fun game and easy for all to play. Thank you Uno for my moment of sanity.
