Ryan Davis: When Trying to be Deep Goes Wrong

Image
The Ryan Davis situation, with him appearing on Club Shay Shay and discussing his daughter in the light that he did, is an example of when trying to be too deep goes wrong. I get it because there have been viral moments out of Club Shay Shay; Davis was hoping to create and capitalize on his turn. Unfortunately, this viral moment came at the expense of his daughter.  Listen below now or on your favorite streaming platform ! So if y'all don't know, Ryan Davis is a comedian, and he has recently funded his own comedy special. Part of his promotion for said special is to make media appearances, and Club Shay Shay was his most recent stop. I don't know if. Shannon Sharp is not taking any journalism courses or lessons on his own. If Sharpe is not, he really should look into it because his behaviour and interviewing skills are not giving journalism. He is not a journalist. He is not a coach. He is not a therapist. He is not anything with any credentials.  Where this comes into play...

How to raise successful kids -- without over-parenting | Julie Lythcott-Haims

Image
I am a Ted Talk fiend. I look for topics of interest to me and watch and learn and take notes and get inspired. My latest find is  How to raise successful kids -- without over-parenting  by author, Julie Lythcott-Haims. The Ted Talk is funny and delightful. Most importantly, it reminds me not to be so hard on my children and myself. Like Haims says, I have over-parenting tentendcies and get frustrated when it seems that they are going in the wrong direction. My take away is that I have to let go a little and let the kids live a little and stress will melt away from all of our lives. Take some time to listen, it is worth it.

A Parent's Love

Parents are a wondrous things. I only realize that now of course. After being a parent myself for only 13 years, I wonder daily how my mother did it and still maintained her sanity. If they were to write about us in a fantasy novel without calling us parents, we would be these mythical, loving and fiercely protective creatures, with mothers leading the squad.  I know that I cannot be the only one that wonders how I make it through a week without screaming like a mad woman at the top of my lungs. Wait a minute. I don't make it through a week. At some point, I actually feel like a mad woman and if anyone were to take a peek into my home at the right moment, they would probably agree. And yet, we fight for them. We love them. We watch them. We worry about them. We scold them. We correct them. We engage them. We laugh with them. We indulge them. We protect them. We do this whether they are thankful or not. We do this with or without their knowledge and, let us face it, most...

Parents, do not forget you!

Image
The babies, the boy and girl, are not really babies anymore. They are annoying, drive-me-crazy Thing 1 and Thing 2 pre-teens. They drive me to levels of frustration that only a bleeding heart, loving parent can understand. When it gets rough, and sometimes that seems daily, I yell and scream (which I really hate doing) out of frustration because they haven't listened to me the first 200 times I asked or said it in a normal voice. Nowadays, I just jump to screaming and have to catch myself. I'm a work in progress. As a raving lunatic mother, I am consistently filled with self doubt about my parenting skills. I think maybe I expect too much from them, maybe I do not expect enough. I ask myself how the heck do other parents do this and get through it. I often wonder about running away for a while. I am planning a vacation without them and of course I feel a tinge of guilt about it, but I know it is needed. It is needed because I need to get away from feeling like I am not go...

ADHD Parenting

I have nothing to say that will add to this except to take it as a reminder. The struggle is real. The feelings are real. Parenting woes are real. My frustrations do not outweigh the needs and feelings of my growing  kids.

Meltdown Mommy Moment

I had a meltdown tonight. Ultimately,  I feel terrible after one of my frustration attacks. Parenting is hard and sometimes it's harder than hard. When the house is a mess, homework needs to be done, there's no dinner, tweens are fighting and not listening and there's just a lot of noise, I feel like crying or yelling. Tonight, I yelled. Now I feel guilty and defeated. It happens. So, yes. I am holding on because my kids are awesome and forgiving and able to get on with life. They will continue to need my guidance whether I am tired and frustrated or not. My love for them makes me crazy. So, I'm writing to maintain my lite living. Live lite, live on.
