Due’s writing style is captivating while weaving a meaningful story together. I enjoyed this book because it had all the exciting elements that I love in a supernatural fictional tale: immortals, super powers, killer virus, covert government operations, global conspiracies and despicable villains sprinkled with a little bit of romance. What more could a girl ask for? Fana has to deal with her fiancé’s penchant for world destruction while struggling with her unnatural attraction to him. If she does not find a way to keep him satisfied while attempting to keep the peace with her immortal clan, everyone in the world can die or fall prey to the evil rule of her fiancé. I am about 1/3 into My Soul to Take by Tananarive Due, and I can't wait to see how she brings everything together. My Soul to Take if the fourth book in her Immortal Series. I will have a review when I get back but if you haven't read the other books, get started because they are worth the time. I love her writing and the story lines. Tananarive Due’s final installation to her immortal series, Blood Colony , does not disappoint in the least. I am secretly hoping that she does not end it here because I soooo want to find out what happens next, even more so now. In this installment, Fana is an impetuous teenager that breaks free from her parents’ protection to experience life on her own as danger and evil trail closely on her heals.   I cannot say anything more about Due’s ability to craft and intertwine a compelling story more than what has already been mentioned from her other two books in this series (see reviews). Due pulls you in to the intrigue of her characters further and further with each turn of the page. There is action, annoyance at a teenager’s know-it-all antics, parents’ worry about their children, hope and many other emotions that the reader will experience on the adventure with Fana. In The Living Blood by Tananarive Due tells the story of Jessica, a new immortal, and her amazing immortal daughter, Fana; and how she must come to grips with the power that runs through her daughter’s veins while dealing with those who would stop at nothing to get a drop of blood for their selfish, evil purposes. I tend not to venture out of my favorite genre too much; however, on this occasion, I am so happy that I did. *** Tananarive Due Website *** I picked up Tananarive Due's My Soul to Keep in the middle of a very difficult grieving process and actually had to put the book down not because it was not captivating though. I had to put it down because where I was in my grieving, reading My Soul to Keep proved to be too disturbing. So, once I was in a better place, I could not wait to finish the novel. Mind you this book came out in 1997 and I am just now discovering it, but what a great find! The main character is Dawit, an African immortal, who breaks all the rules to keep his beloved family intact.
