Disclosure Day Trailer

The trailer for this new Steven Spielberg-directed sci-fi film has garnered over 31 million views since its release 2 months ago, and I am intrigued. Where are my science fiction movie lovers at? Better yet, where are my alien conspiracy theorists at? The fact that the cast is an ensemble of phenomenal actors who really commit to their performance is already exciting. I am trying not to have to high expectations so I do not get too disappointed. However, I have to say, the trailer is making it hard not to expect this movie to be phenomenal.
With the first piano note and then “What did you steal?” I am locked in. Then he says, ‘secrets!” Oh, I am sat. Then it cuts to a high-tech facility where you see Colin Firth’s character walking through. The accompanying music is a character in itself because it has already had me on the on the edge. Then it cuts to the “thief” in an alien crop circle forming around him. Then back to him and his girlfriend looking at a screen, and she asks, “Are they people?” Before he answers, there’s a tense pause, and he says, “No.”
This is all in the first 30 seconds. I am there. Next, the trailer highlights that this is a Steven Spielberg production, and we hear Emily Blunt’s character’s cheery voice as she reports on the morning weather. This is when I know she is going to bring it because she starts acting funny, like she is unable to breathe or speak and proceeds to speak in some alien-sounding language. It cuts to a scene of different people in the nation watching, wondering what’s going on. Back to the couple, and the thief is tells his girlfriend that he can understand the alien gibberish. Now, of course, you cannot have a good alien conspiracy cover-up movie without the reporter who’s trying to expose everything, enters Coleman Domingo, who is emphasizing how “people are starved for the truth.” The trailer goes on to show various intriguing scenes, including short action sequences where Emily Blunt’s character and the thief, a potential whistleblower played by Josh O’conner’s, are running from dangerous attempts on their lives.
Now what I found interesting was that although the “aliens” are naturally assumed to be the villain, it’s not blatant that they are. That, of course, could just be my warped brain. Additionally, I don’t know if everyone is starved for the truth. I think most people want to be oblivious and live their lives undisturbed. From what I have witnessed in our political climate over the past few years, people want what comforts them. So in this vein, the “aliens and evil government might not be wrong. Check out the trailer yourself and share your thoughts. I am ready for June 12th to come around to check this one out.
