Common's Finding Forever

Common is a purist in the way he raps. He stays true to story telling, and keeping a strong flow going. Finding Forever is a great album.

"Start the Show"- The beat is hot. The hook is hot. Common is scoolin' the fakers. "Fake n-words is shivering."

"The People"- If you want a joint that reminds you of old school hip hop this is definitely a good one. It just takes you back to the days when people were rapping about more than the bling. You know I'm feelin' this one because of the r&b touch thrown in there.

"Drivin' Me Wild"- I don't know who this Lily Allen chick is but I am feelin' her on the hook. The video for this is great. The lyrics are so on point for where we are at today. Accomplished with the world at our finger tips but still searching for something to fulfill us.

"Southside"- Rap heads will like this one, I think. It is not one of my favorites but I don't hate it.

"The Game"- Definitely for the rap heads. The lyrics are tight just like Common's flow. I usually skip this one though (ya'll know why).

"Black Maybe"- Mellow out a little bit with this. Get a peak of the streets/ghetto with a dash of hope courtesy of Common's maybe. Really, does it have to be this way? Can it be better, maybe?

"So Far To Go"- The last time I caught a glimps of D'Angelo he was looking pretty busted. Rumors had him drugged up and washed up. Hearing him on this joint, you would think he is as fine as he was during the naked video drama. On this cut, Common makes me want to call him up and ask him to take me out and I am a happily married woman. But then he messes it up by saying, "As long as I'm in your town, I'ma stay faithful." This is r&b meets rap heaven for me.

"Break My Heart"- Nothing bad to say. It is a good cut. "I don't be date rappers. I said, I got my SAG card baby, I'm an actor." Love it LOL.

"Misunderstood"- Bluesy flavor thrown into the mix. I am so feelin' this (now I sound like a broken record). The lyrics, the strings, the percuss ions. I totally see myself in a little hole-in-the wall club waiting for the next poet to come out and slam. This is fire.

"Forever Begins"- This is going to sound weird but I get chills when I hear this song. Seriously, it makes me want to go out and do something. I have no idea what, but I'm working on that. It is as if Common builds up to this song that basically challenges you (us) to go out and do your little part to change lives (whether it be yours or someone else's).

Look, the album is crazy. It is inspirational, motivation, and if you don't care about any of that, it is musically fabulous.

4 out 5 stars!

Get it!
