When God Says Go, Go

The Lord had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's house and go to the land I will show you. 2"I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." 4So Abram left, as the Lord had told him; and Lot when with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran. ~Genesis 12:1-4

God told Abram to leave everything that he is familiar with behind and go ... well, he did not tell him where to go exactly. So, here I am chilling in my fathers city with my wife and family, and God tells me to go, but he does not tell me where I am going? He lets me know that he will show me the land. Then He goes on to promise all these great things for my life. Well, I am thinking that I am 75 and have already lived a pretty good life. I could easily live out the 100 or so years of my life just as I am. God had different plans though.

Unlike what I would have done, Abram did not stop to ask any questions. He just left with his wife and nephew to find this land. Now that is faith. God has been telling me to do something for the past seven years or so and I still have a hard time with doing it. In this day in age, blind obedience is so hard for us. With media outlets that allow us to validate facts before moving forward, we tend not to rely soley on one's word. It is hard for us to just stop what we are doing and start doing something else that we might not even be familiar with.

God calls us to do things like that all the time. Now if we get blessings for doing what God tells us, what do we get when we do not follow his guidance? I believe we get farther away from Him with detrimental consequences. I know I need to work on doing what He tells me to do when He wants me to do them, not on my personal time table.
