Feeling A Bit Lazy?

Do you ever have a long list of things that need to get done, but you have absolutely no motivation to even attempt to start striking things off that list? In other words, do you ever get lazy?

Personally, I like to call it my special ability to procrastinate until the list disappears all on its own (we know that will never happen, it will just get longer). So, I have been feeling a little out of sorts and just plain old lazy. I find a host of other mindless things to do before I even think about doing what's necessary. Actually, I was not even going to post anything tonight, but then I thought I would post about feeling lazy. That meant looking up something in the Bible which, naturally, my lazy behind did not want to do. I did it anyway.

A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish son grief to his mother, 2Ill-gotten treasures are of no value, but righteousness delivers from death. 3The lord does not let the righteous go hungry but he thwarts the craving of the wicked. 4Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth. ~Proverbs 10:1-4

Of course, that would have to be the verse I get right. Trust, there are quite a few other verses that address laziness but the first one I come upon is the above. As soon as I read verse 4, I was worried. However, the truth of it cannot be avoided. This is just plain old common sense. If you are lazy, you won't accomplish much; but if you are a hard worker, you will be in the position to take advantage of opportunities presented to you via God's blessings. How about that for a knock on the head?

For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you, 8nor did we eat any one's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you. 9We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to follow. 10For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: "If a man will not work, he shall not eat."~2Thessalonians 3:7-10

So, here is where I have to pray like Jesus is coming back tomorrow because there are a lot of times when I most certainly do not serve as an example for others to follow. There are times when I am lazy and I am discouraged and I am negative and I do not show my faith to God, regardless if it is truly what is in my heart. There are times when I verbalize things to people I should not because it casts a negative light on my being a Christian. I struggle with that everyday, as I am sure most of you do too. I have to constantly remind myself that in being a Christian other people are watching me; I must be a better example.

Lastly, I really need to work on this lazy bug though because a sister is not trying to starve or, most importantly, miss out on God's blessing.

Hello... I am the queen of procrastination. As we speak I am sitting here trying to stare down a pile of papers that I need to go through. Most of it are student grades that I need to input for my job. Right now I am contemplating tossing it all. I need like motivating music that could get my ignition. I think this is something that we all face from time to time. Maybe we are trying to hold on to or avoid something else. Maybe we think we can't possible accomplish what we need to do. Whatever just need to trust in ourselves that we can get the job done. -Marjorie Johnson
