News Roll Call

Young people reading a lot lessBoston Globe - We know what young people are doing more of: watching television, surfing the Web, listening to their iPods, talking on cell phones, and instant-messaging their friends.

Can we please get a book in these kids’ hands? I am not even kidding, reading changed my life. I went from Cs to Bs and As and eventually more As than Bs (until I got to college of course LOL. It was like starting all over again). I want my kid to be the one raking in the dough from the new gadgets and inventions instead of being the consumer. Reading is the gateway to a successful future. Starting at a very young age and creating a bonding moment with your children is definitely the way to go.

Bump that, I know some of ya’ll suckers are not reading. There are so many options out there now. Get a library card. If you need a guide visit
www.apooo.org or www.aalbc.com or www.rawsistaz.com. They are all great sites for the beginning reader. It really is that serious.

Kindle Versus The iphoneForbes - Amazon.com Chief Executive Jeff Bezos has created a reason to switch from bound paper books to bits - a device with a wireless connection able to download digital books on the go.

With the iPhone's wireless capabilities and availability of e-books, I am just not sure if people will be jumping on this band wagon. I am still a cuddle up with an actually book person but I would not be opposed to trying it if the price goes down (considerably down).

Here we go. I cannot begin to imagine what it is like being a cop, not knowing when your life will be put in jeopardy. I am sure it is a difficult and stressful job, but come on people. There is a problem and it has to be addressed. They spend so much time trying to defend their actions that they don’t ever seem to truly address the issues and take corrective action to mitigate future incidents.

"Angels" wings clipped by writers strikeReuters - By Borys Kit and Leslie Simmons- LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The Hollywood writers strike has forced producers to postpone work on the Tom Hanks movie "Angels and Demons," a prequel to the worldwide blockbuster "The Da Vinci Code.

Okay, seriously, maybe, just maybe the wait will be a good thing. Let’s face it, if I had not already read the book, the movie would have totally sucked for me. As it was, there were elements that I thought were just off anyway. Everything happens for a reason. Go with it.
