Cheslie Kryst RIP: Be Outraged Listen to the podcast or keep scrolling to read the post. Cheslie Kryst, 2019 Miss USA, lawyer-activist and entertainment correspondent, dies today after jumping out of a building. She posted a fun TikTok just a few days ago and her last post on Instagram as seen below is leaves a haunting hurt behind for anyone who views it and now understands that she was saying goodbye. CDC sites that “suicide affects all ages. It is the second leading cause of death for people ages 10-34, the fourth leading cause among people ages 35-44, and the fifth leading cause among people ages 45-54.” Do not be shocked. Be outraged about the suicide rates and statistics in America that you do something about it. Be outraged enough to stop stigmatizing and making fun of mental health issues. Be outraged enough to take care of yourself and pay attention to the people around you. I obviously do not know her story. But I know mine, as a person who lost a loved one to sui

The Day the Earth Stood Still

The Day the Earth Stood Still The Day the Earth Stood Still is now available on Amazon Prime and you’ve got 8 more days to watch it with your Prime membership. This film came out in 2008 and stars Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly as well as Jaden Smith. Actually, they had a pretty solid group of actors rounding out the cast. Reeves plays Klaatu, an advanced alien species that comes to earth in a dramatic fashion to save the planet from us Humans.  The critics destroyed this movie but I feel like they always do. This is a classic man vs nature story with some pretty cool special effects for the time. It ties in all of my favorite science fiction concepts: aliens, advanced technology, and end of the world level destruction. Reeves has a knack of picking roles that suit his stoic style of acting. Of course, inhabiting an alien’s body allows for some level of awkwardness and stoic affect that Reeves is signature for.  I enjoyed this film back then and again when I rewatched it. Jennife

Journal Prompt: Your toughest accomplishment

Journal Prompt: Your toughest accomplishment Virtually nothing is impossible in this world if you just put your mind to it and maintain a positive attitude - Lou Holtz Think about your accomplishments and pick one that you had a hard time with. Maybe you were doubtful about whether or not you were going to make it through. Maybe you thought you were going to fail but you did not.  When you are journaling you do not have to limit yourself. In this case, you can write about: What that accomplishment was and describe it How it made you feel to finish it The doubts you had and why People who did not support you versus the people who did support you How did you go about accomplishing it What do you think helped you get though The moments when you pushed through There are so many aspects that you can focus on, or you can write about them all. Journaling is all about getting your thoughts, feelings and emotions down on paper. It does not matter how and it never has to be perfect. When I think

Personally, I think acknowledging your need for help even through self-help books and coaches is a great step towards success building. We acknowledge that we want to get out of our own way and are trying to find the best way to do that.  Success requires commitment, motivation, focus, a sense of purpose, and courage, -Jen Sincero  Jen Sincero herself is a wonderful success story and people flock to her because she shares her story and her passion. Again, it is not groundbreaking new information, but sometimes someone can say things in a way that really resonates with you. For example, Sincero says that “success requires commitment, motivatio

Selling Tampa: Balancing it out

Image
Selling Tampa on Netflix Selling Tampa takes an inside look into the inner workings of the Allure real estate agency, an all-female, black-owned agency created by Sharelle Rosado. I have reached episode five and definitely plan to see it through. I enjoy watching these shows for a couple of reasons: I am interested and intrigued in the real estate business, and I like to see the homes and who’s buying and selling these places. Who are these buyers spending ridiculous amounts of money on these luxury homes? I have watched most versions of Million Dollar Listings, and several different shows about the home business on multiple networks. Interestingly enough, I have not watched Selling Sunset which was before Selling Tampa, but I may if I find the time.  Of course, I had to watch Selling Tampa to see this black-owned agency rise up and make deals. I am at episode five and the ladies are definitely making moves. What I enjoy about the show so far is that it’s not ratchet and does a good

Plan with a Purpose

Start living your dreams today! Like right now! Or at the very least, let us start moving in that direction. Are you ready to challenge yourself and push yourself beyond your own expectations? I got my Happy Planner today and I am ready to plan out my goals and my baby steps to achieving them. I often have to regroup, reset and reprioritize throughout the year, but something about a new planner gets me a little excited about starting the process over again. Blanks pages signify an opportunity to make changes.  “Many a calm river begins as a turbulent waterfall, yet none hurtles and foams all the way to the sea.” —Mikhail Lermontov Goal setting and planning is actually a great way to assist with stress management. Having a direction and a plan grounds your mind and creates intentions. Stay open and flexible with applying adjustments throughout the process.  The goal-setting and planning process is when we collect ourselves and organize the turbulence. Life will always have ups and downs
